Many parents want to know who is going to be with their child for the next 180 days. Let's be honest. I will spend more waking hours with your child than you will. So who am I, this Mrs. Hood, and how will I influence your child?
I have often wished I could write a book about what I love to do. Teach. Well, I have found the book I would write. Sadly, it's already been written, and I will not become a best selling author. Though Ron Clark speaks of his work at his own private school, his beliefs about children and teaching are very similar to my own. If you want to know more about me and my philosophy of teaching, as well as the expectations I have of my students AND of you, I encourage you to read the book, The End of Molasses Classes by Ron Clark.
If you want a peek into a teacher's heart and soul, read the first part of this book. If you want to know what we, as teachers, expect from you, as parents, read the second part. If you want to know how I will work to make this the most memorable and best year ever for your child, well, go ahead and skip to the third part. If, however, you want to earn extra credit points and be one of those high achieving parents, I challenge you to read the entire book, all four parts. It's an easy read, and one you will not soon forget. You may even learn something new or be validated in the way you are already raising your child.
I will make no apologies for the high expectations that I have for our children. They deserve this. From all of us. I promise you that with your support and trust in me, your child will learn more this year than ever before. Is this possible, you ask? You better believe it! Now, let's get to work.
I challenge you all to read this book. You will be glad you did!
